If you head through West Kelso on a regular basis, it’s time to start plotting a new course, as the City of Kelso gets ready for a full closure of the road, starting next Monday. City officials say that 1st Avenue will be closed to through traffic between Fishers Lane to Washington Street, with access maintained to the Hall of Justice, local businesses, and homes in that area. The intersection at Allen Street and West Main will also be closed, and Catlin Street will also be closed to through traffic, again, with access available to businesses and homes in that area. West Side Highway traffic will be detoured to Washington Street, 5th Avenue and Fishers Lane; people needing access to homes and businesses in the closure area made need to do some advance planning to get where they need to go. Parking restrictions will also go into effect throughout the work zone. This is the first of a series of closures that will be taking place through May as part of the West Main Street Realignment Project.
