Columbia County now says that a “welcome home” ceremony that had been planned for about three dozen Oregon National Guard members who’ve just returned from deployment to Afghanistan has been called off. The troops from the First Battalion, 186th Infantry will be involved in a demobilization ceremony that’s planned for 10 am this morning at the Mason Armory in Tigard, then it was originally planned that the soldiers would be transported to the Armory in St. Helens. Officials with Columbia County now say that return to St. Helens has been cancelled. The ceremony in Tigard is open to the public, and people are encouraged to attend that event.
