The Longview Civic Circle is being spotlighted as the site for a new sporting event that’s coming to the area next month, as Highlander Cycling of Longview announces the first-ever Longview Grand Prix Criterium, a bicycle racing event that’s being planned for Saturday, August 14th. Bicycles will race around the Civic Circle roundabout, with dozens of racers competing in events of 30 to 75 minutes in length. The Criterium is billed as a high-speed event, with a technical turn in the area of the Nutty Narrows Bridge. Several hundred riders are expected, with a number of experience levels, including a beginners’ class. Organizers say that they’ll have spectator seating set up, a kids’ bike race, live bands and other festivities, as well. They also say sponsorship opportunities are still available. You can find out more by contacting Highlander Cycling at 1313 Commerce Avenue in Longview, or call them at 353-3790.
