Weyerhaeuser is announcing the closure of an engineered wood products plant in Millersburg, Oregon, just outside of Albany. Company officials blame the continuing drag in the housing market for the closure, which will involve about 70 jobs. The plant, which has been open since 2000, is expected to run through October 30th, and Weyco says that they do no expect to re-open the facility. Employees will receive severance packages and other benefits because of the involuntary closure. The closure does not affect other Weyerhaeuser facilities in the Albany area; their regional offices will remain open, and the plywood mill in Sweet Home will continue to operate.
