Dogs Removed

15 dogs are currently undergoing rehabilitation and treatment at the Cowlitz County Humane Society, after being taken out of a filthy house near Silver Lake. Today’s Daily News reports on the incident, which took place earlier this week. Acting on a tip, animal control officers went to the home, where they found the dogs living in squalid conditions. Humane Society Director Rick Johnson says that “years” of waste had simply been shoved to the sides of the house; the dogs, which were Cocker Spaniel mixes, had never been to see a veterinarian, and were in extremely poor condition. One had to be euthanized because of deformities that wouldn’t allow it to stand, and a second had to be put down because of a tumor. The home’s owner, a man in his 30’s, is out of work, and had no money to care for the dogs. Johnson says that he cooperated completely, and was “embarrassed” by the situation. At this time, they say that he will not face animal cruelty charges. The Humane Society is now trying to nurture the dogs, to make them adoptable. They’re currently seeking foster homes for the animals.
