I-5 Chase

Posted on 10th September 2010 at 09:02

Deputies say that a Taser was deployed in the arrest of a man who was involved in a high-speed chase on I-5 northbound yesterday afternoon, a pursuit that went from Kelso to the Toutle River Rest Stop. Deputies say that this got started around 4 pm, when calls started coming in about an erratic and aggressive driver in the area of milepost 30 northbound. Deputies spotted the suspect vehicle near milepost 40, and attempted to make a stop. The driver continued northbound, speeding up to 80 miles an hour by milepost 46, and 100 miles an hour at milepost 49. The suspect hit spike strips that were set up at milepost 50, but he continued driving. At the rest stop, the man apparently tried to leave the freeway, and that’s where he was hit by one of the pursuing Deputies. At that point, the man tried to run, so a Taser was deployed to take him into custody. Deputies say Jason Isbell, 32, of Stockton, California, was highly intoxicated, so he was taken to St. John Medical Center for treatment and observation. They say charges of felony eluding, DUI and driving while suspended are pending. The Deputy involved in the collision with Isbell’s car was not injured.
