Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Longview is holding “Gi-Normous” Garage Sale on Friday and Saturday, with proceeds going to benefit “Machines of Mercy,” an inter-faith group that’s working to help the Makah Indians build a cultural center. Saturday:
The 2010 Highlander Festival runs Saturday and Sunday in Kelso, with most events centered around Tam O’Shanter Park. Admission is free.
The dedication of the permanent 9/11 Memorial at the Cowlitz 2 Main Station in Kelso is set for noon on Saturday. All are invited to take part.
There’s a 9/11 memorial observance planned for 11 am Saturday at the Woodland Fire Station, with a reading of the names of the New York City firefighters killed in the attack, followed by an open house.
The 45th anniversary of the Baker’s Corner Fire Station will be marked on Saturday, with a party planned from 10 am to 3 pm. They’ll have free hot dogs and beverages, educational booths, bike helmet and life jacket fittings, and free blood pressure checks. Weather permitting, LifeFlight will have their helicopter on display, and there’s a waterball fight scheduled for 2 pm.
The Kalama Art Event is set for Saturday in downtown, with art workshops and art for sale. A number of fee-based workshops are planned through the day. Call 673-4071 for additional information.

The annual “Remnants of the Past” event is planned for this weekend out west of Longview at the Stella Museum. Hours are 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday.
Out at Camp Rilea near Warrenton, they’re holding “Warrior Hall,” for all active duty and recently returned veterans from around the area. Organizers say that they’ll have a variety of resources for local vets. Hours are 10 am until 2 pm on Saturday.
Dan Whyms presents a “Living Tribute to Johnny Cash” in a Saturday night concert at the Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts. Curtain is set for 7:30 pm. Call 575-8499 for ticket information.
The Cowlitz Community Farmer’s Market continues on Saturday, with fresh produce, honey, plants and home-made crafts for sale in the 7th Avenue parking lot across from the Expo Center.
The Rainier Marina Market continues on Saturday in downtown Rainier, and will run through December 19th. They’ll have produce, herbs, plants, hand-crafted garden furniture, clothing, soaps, jewelry and other specialty items for sale. The Rainier Marina Market is located at 115 East A in Rainier, next to the Bank of America.
Sunday:
The Rainier Church of God is holding a Hawaiian Open House and Breakfast on Sunday, serving French Toast, ham, eggs, and fruit. The event kicks off the church’s annual Sunday School, starting at 9:30 am.
The 3rd annual Ryderwood Variety Show is set for 3 pm Sunday at the Community Hall at the end of SR 506. This year’s special guest will be the “Road Show” barbershop quartet from Portland. Tickets are available at the door.
The Kelso Bridge Market runs each Sunday through October, at a new venue in West Kelso. The Bridge Market will now be located on the lawn next to the Catlin Rotary Spray Park on Northwest 8th Avenue. Hours are 10 am until 3 pm each Sunday through October.
