Charges of second-degree animal cruelty are being filed against a Woodland man who is now accused of abandoning two horses on some property up near Toutle. It’s alleged that Edward Stevens, 40, asked the owner of the property back in May if he could keep the horses in the field, while he fixed a fence on his own property. In fact, Stevens didn’t have any land at all, and authorities claim that he never returned to the property off of Lapham Road. The Daily News reports that the Humane Society seized the horses in June, and the charges were filed one week ago. The horses are now being boarded in Castle Rock. Humane Society officials say that Stevens actually has a history of moving these horses around, without caring for them. Earlier in May, Stevens had dropped the horses off on some property on Oak Point Road, but then he moved them, just prior to the Humane Society stepping in.
