Cowlitz 2 Fire and Rescue is once again marking the sacrifice of hundreds of first responders in their annual 9/11 Memorial, held this morning at the department’s main station in Kelso. In his remarks this year, Chief Dave LaFave says that as time goes on, this event actually stands in memoriam of other firefighters who have laid down their lives…911ceremony…Every year since the attack on September 11th, 2001, the men and women of Cowlitz 2 have held a special ceremony, raising the flag and then lowering it to half-staff. LaFave says that they know this is early in the day, but the events are intended to mirror the actual times that the south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed in New York City. He says that this one morning of “inconvenience” is the least that we can do for those who perished. The ceremony will be held in front of the Cowlitz 2 main station at 701 Vine Street in Kelso, right next to the permanent memorial that contains an artifact from the World Trade Center itself. You’re invited to come by and take part in this morning’s event.
