The second annual “Arts and Vines” event is planned for this weekend, starting today in Castle Rock, and continuing along the Spirit Lake Memorial Highway both Saturday and Sunday. The event will feature fine art and wines from the local area, offered at seven different venues from Castle Rock, all the way up to the Johnston Ridge Volcano Observatory. The opening reception is set for 5 to 8 pm tonight at the Castle Rock Exhibit Hall, then all of the venues will be open form 10 am until 6 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Along with the Exhibit Hall, you can check out wine and art at the Mount St. Helens Cellars Tasting Room, Harmony Wines, A Spirit Within studio, the Twosome Art Studio, the Hoffstadt Bluffs Visitors Center and the Science and Learning Center at Coldwater. Tomorrow night, the first “Music on the Mountain” concert at Johnston Ridge will cap things off, with Portland-based “Sassparilla” putting on a free concert of “roots-pop” music, starting at 6:30 pm. The Lions Club will also be staffing a beer and wine tent at that event. Call 274-6603 for more details, or check things out on www.visitmtsthelens.com/arts_vines.html.
