The Cowlitz County Elections Office is dropping 58-thousand-27 ballots at the Post Office today. Along with statewide measures dealing with food labeling and the initiative process, there are a number of local races to be decided. There are contested seats on the Kelso, Longview and Castle Rock City Councils, the School Boards in Longview and Castle Rock, and for the Woodland Port Commission. Voters in the Silver Lake area are also being asked to decide to decide on a levy that would pay for expansion of the Silver Lake Cemetery. Ballots in Columbia County are also going out today. Columbia County voters are once again being asked to approve a levy that would help to pay for jail operations. Ballots in Washington need to be postmarked or dropped off by 8 pm on Tuesday, November 5th to be counted. In Oregon, ballots must be at the courthouse in St. Helens prior to 8 pm on November 5th to be valid. Contact your local elections office if you have other questions.
