We’re getting word that a military memorial service is being set up for tomorrow at Fort Knox in Kentucky, the home base of Army Specialist Mikayla Bragg of Longview. It’s being reported that Bragg’s father, stepmother and mother will attend tomorrow’s service, then all will return home. Fort Knox Garrison Public Affairs says that the service will be held 2 pm eastern time, 11 am our time in the Prichard Place Chapel. The Daily News also reports that a local memorial service will be held next month, but the exact date, time and location hasn’t yet been set. The 21 year-old Mark Morris High School graduate was shot and killed on Wednesday of last week, while in a guard tower in Afghanistan. She was just a couple of weeks from wrapping up her first deployment in the Middle East, as a member of the 201st Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. Governor Chris Gregoire is expected to issue a directive to have flags all across the state lowered to half-staff in Bragg’s honor. Several organizations in this area have already lowered their flags, after getting the news late last week.
