Effective immediately, campfires are banned in all of Washington’s state parks. Parks officials say that the ban is needed to help prevent human-caused wildfires during the hot, dry season on both sides of the Cascades. Open fires and charcoal briquettes are banned until further notice; campers will still be able to use propane, liquid gas and other stoves that are appropriate for camping and backcountry use. Solid fuel citronella and other candles in metal buckets or glass containers are also allowed. This follows the campfire ban that was announced by DNR earlier this week; DNR provides fire protection for about 50 percent of state park lands. Get more information on the State Parks website.
