The R.A. Long Lumberjacks open the prep football season tonight with a 7 pm home game against Columbia River…..The Seahawks final pre-season game is tonight at home against the Oakland Raiders. Don’t expect the starters to play much…..Rookie Shawn O’Malley had three hits including a tie-breaking RBI single in the 8th as the Mariners beat the Astros 8-3 last night. The M’s have the day off before a three game set at Oakland tomorrow…..Clark beat LCC 3-1 in volleyball action last night. The Devils play in the Green River tournament Friday and Saturday…..Columbia Basin blanked the LCC soccer team 7-0. The Devils play at Yakima Valley today…..In boys golf today, MM, RAL and Woodland take part in the Beaver Cup Jamboree at Lewis River.

Logan Morrison hit a tie-breaking, two-run, pinch hit homer in the 8th inning giving the Mariners a 7-5 victory over the Astros. Franklin Gutierrez and Mark Trumbo also went deep for Seattle. The M’s and Astros close out the three game set today, KLOG 4:00 pm…..Fred Jackson is in Seattle talking with the Seahawks about possibly signing with the team. He was cut by the Bills on Monday…..The R.A. Long Lumberjacks are first up for the prep football action as they host Columbia River Thursday night…..The Lower Columbia College volleyball team defeated the Pacific University JV’s 3-1 last night. The Devils return to the home court tonight at 6 pm when they take on the Clark Penguins…..The LCC women’s soccer team takes on the Columbia Basin Hawks today in Pasco at 12 pm.

Dallas Keuchel won his 16th game as Houston beat Seattle 8-3 last night. Mark Trumbo hit two homers for the M’s in the loss. The teams play again today, KLOG 4:00 pm. The Mariners traded CF Austin Jackson to the Cubs for a player-to-be-named later and an international draft slot…..NFL Insider reports that veteran RB Fred Jackson is in Seattle today to possibly sign a deal to be Marshawn Lynch’s back up with the Seahawks. Jackson was cut by the Buffalo Bills on Monday. The Hawks trimmed center Lemuel Jeanpierre from the roster yesterday. It appears Drew Nowak has won the starting job…..The Lower Columbia College volleyball team is at home tonight as they take on Pacific University of Forest Grove. First serve at Myklebust Gym is 6 pm.

The White Sox beat the Mariners 6-5 in 11 innings on Sunday. The M’s are in Houston to play the Astros tonight, KLOG 4:00 pm…..The Seattle Sounders held off the Portland Timbers in MLS soccer yesterday…..The Portland Thorns and Washington Spirit ended in a 3-3 tie at Providence Park last night…..The LCC women’s soccer team went 1-1 at the NWAC Friendlies event in Eugene over the weekend. Saturday the Devils beat Portland 2-0 then Skagit downed LCC 3-0 on Sunday…..The LCC volleyball team opened the season with a 3-0 win over Multnomah on Friday. The Devils host Pacific University tomorrow night at 6 pm…..UW coach Chris Peterson says he will not name a starting QB until right before game time Friday night at Boise State.

The Mariners have fired General Manager Jack Zduriencik, who was in his 7th season. Assistant GM Jeff Kingston will handle the duties for the rest of the season. The M’s lost to the White Sox 4-2 yesterday. The teams play again today, KLOG 4:00 pm…..The high school football season is a week away. Tonight R.A. Long, Toutle Lake and Kalama will meet in a Jamboree with the JV’s at 6 pm and the varsity after. The Kelso Blue-Gold Scrimmage is at 10 am tomorrow morning at Laulainen Stadium at Schroeder Field and the Mark Morris Blue-White Scrimmage is tomorrow at 9:30 am behind MMHS……The LCC volleyball team hosts Multnomah University of Portland today at 5 pm…..The LCC women’s soccer team will play four matches in Eugene this weekend at the NWAC Friendlies.

Nelson Cruz hit his 39th homer and Felix Hernandez provided eight solid innings as the Mariners beat the Oakland A’s 8-2 yesterday. Seattle visits the White Sox in South Chicago today, KLOG 4:00 pm…..Olimpia defeated the Seattle Sounders 1-0 in a CONCACAF Champions League match in Honduras…..The Seattle Reign beat the Boston Breakers 3-1 in NWSL play. That’s the sixth straight win for Seattle…..The NFL Network reports that Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch has settled with the NFL regarding fines from last season’s NFC title game. No details, but a hearing was cancelled…..Former Kelso football star Cedrique Chaney has been named to D2 Football.com’s Pre-Season All America team. Chaney begins his senior season as CB for the Central Wildcats.

The Mariners rallied from a 5-0 deficit to beat the Oakland A’s 6-5 last night. Nelson Cruz hit homer number 38, Logan Morrison hit a homer on his birthday, and Austin Jackson had a clutch 2 run single to give the M’s the lead. Seattle hosts a day game today with Felix Hernandez on the mound, KLOG 11:30 am…..The Seahawks are still looking for offensive line help after missing out on free agent Evan Mathis. Mathis signed a one-year deal with the Denver Broncos. The Hawks next pre-season game is Saturday at the San Diego Chargers…..Nothing has been settled in Washington’s three-man quarterback competition, and UW coach Chris Petersen says it’s possible he may not announce a starter before the Sept. 4 season opener at Boise State.

The Mariners couldn’t hold a 5-0 lead with Hisashi Iwakuma on the mound and they went on to lose to the Oakland A’s 11-5. Franklin Gutierrez hit a three-run homer, but Iwakuma faltered as the A’s scored seven runs off him in the 5th inning. The M’s and A’s play again tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The LCC women’s soccer team went 1-1-1 at the Clark Jamboree event yesterday. The Devils beat Portland 4-1, tied Pierce 0-0 and lost to Clark 4-1…..Former UW head football coach Steve Sarkisian says he mixed meds and alcohol and that caused his inappropriate behavior at a USC Booster rally last Saturday. The Trojan coach says he will undergo rehab treatment, but he doesn’t think he has a drinking problem.

The Mariners held on for an 8-6 win over the White Sox on Sunday. Seattle led 7-1 after five innings but Chicago rallied to get within one run. Robinson Cano had a two-run homer for the M’s. Seattle hosts the Oakland A’s tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..Billy Andrade won the Boeing Classic, the Champions Tour event at TPC Snoqualmie…..Former UW football coach Steve Sarkisian, now at USC, issued an apology after he appeared at a Trojan Booster rally Saturday night slurring words and yelling profane language……Current UW coach Chris Petersen has yet to name a starter at QB for the season opener at Boise State. The Broncos announced that sophomore Ryan Finley will start at QB against the Huskies.

The action is at Northlake Field…..The LCC volleyball team also hosts its Alumni team Saturday, 12:30 pm at Myklebust Gym…..Fred Couples is the local favorite as the Boeing Classic Champions event is underway at Snoqualmie Ridge.
