Longview native Brady Bergeson coached Western Oregon to a 94-88 upset of Alaska-Anchorage in the men’s GNAC playoffs…..Cleveland scored seven runs in the last three innings to beat the Mariners 8-5 yesterday. The M’s play the White Sox at Camelback Ranch today.
The Lower Columbia College women’s basketball team ended up 6th in the NWAACC this year. The Devils lost to Clark 80-69 yesterday in the 5th/6th game. Christian Carlson had 17 points in her final LCC game. Columbia Basin beat Umpqua for the women’s title while Portland won the men’s title with a victory over Pierce…..The Portland Trail Blazers host the Atlanta Hawks tonight, KLOG 6:35 pm…..Felix Hernandez pitched two scoreless inning’s in his spring debit as the Mariners beat the Dodgers 4-1. Arinesha Smith sparked a rally with just over three minutes left in the game, leading the LCC Lady Devils from seven points down to beat Spokane 67-66 at the NWAACC Basketball Tourney. The win moves LCC into the 5th-6th place game, where they will take on the Clark Penguins, coverage on The Wave starts at 11:50 am…..Wesley Johnson dunked an alley-oop inbounds pass with 6.9 seconds left, lifting the L. A. Lakers to a 107-106 win over the Blazers, snapping Portland’s five-game winning streak. The Blazers have tonight off, then Atlanta comes in tomorrow night…..The M’s won a pair of split-squad games yesterday, 8-1 over Colorado and 6-5 over Cincinnati. Seattle travels to Glendale today to play the Dodgers, where Felix Hernandez will have his first start of the season.
The LCC Lady Devils will try to stay alive at the NWAACC Basketball Tournament in Kennewick, after dropping a 74-57 decision to Columbia Basin. LCC trailed early and never was able contend in the game, trailing by 23 at the half and eventually losing by 17. They’ll play Spokane in a loser-out game scheduled for 4 pm. The men were ousted from the tourney after losing to Big Bend 84-69…..The Red Devils also opened the baseball season over the weekend, splitting a Saturday doubleheader with Clark, 9-8 and 8-2, followed by a sweep of the Concordia JV’s, 10-3 and 13-2…..The Seattle Mariners were dealt their first Cactus League loss yesterday, dropping a 6-3 decision to the Cleveland Indians. LF Dustin Ackley was 2-3 in the game, with a tape-measure HR in the 4th.

It’s a 1A boys twinbill tonight at MM with Toledo versus University Prep at 6 pm followed by Woodland and Cascade Christian at 8 pm. The Mark Morris boys take on Sehome tomorrow in a 4 pm match up at WF West in Chehalis. Kalama and 3 Rivers have boys playoffs tomorrow. In girls, Kalama, Woodland, Toutle Lake and Wahkiakum all play tomorrow…..The LCC hoop teams open NWAACC action tomorrow night, men at 8 pm and the women at 10 pm…..The LCC baseball tam host Clark Saturday at 12 pm, then hosts Concordia Sunday at 12 pm…..The LCC softball action in Richland this weekend was cancelled.

Damian Lillard led Portland with 32 points…..The Oregon Ducks beat the WSU Cougars 67-53 on Sunday…..The LCC teams came up with wins at Grays Harbor Saturday. Both LCC teams open the NWAACC tournament in Kennewick next Saturday night. The LCC men play Portland at 8 pm and the LCC women take on Chemeketa at 10 pm…..Fox Sports is reporting that the Seahawks are expected to release DE Red Bryant in a salary cap move.
