The Mariners open a road trip with a game against the hot Toronto Blue Jays today, KLOG 3:00 pm. The Mariner organization will have plenty of folks in Cooperstown NY for Ken Griffey Junior’s Hall of Fame induction on Sunday…..Weston Hatten hit a three-run homer to lead the Cowlitz Black Bears to a 5-4 win over Bend. The teams play at 6:35 pm game at Story Field tonight before heading down to Bend for three more games…..Hilander Dental defeated KWRL 2-1 in an exhibition game last night. HD opens State Senior Legion action in Yakima tomorrow at 4 pm against Kennewick. Competitive Athletics opens the Junior Legion State in Spokane tomorrow at 1 pm against Burlington…..Melissa Joyal and Mindy Rutkowski won the Heritage Bank Women’s Scramble by 10 shots.

Leonys Martin hit a walk-off 11th inning homer to give the Mariners a 6-5 win over the White Sox yesterday. Martin hit a long ball earlier and Mike Zunino and Adam Lind also went deep. The Mariners travel today before playing at Toronto tomorrow. The M’s also traded Mike Montgomery to the Cubs for two minor leaguers…..Bend Elks pitcher Austin Jackson spun a six hit shutout in a 7-0 win over the Black Bears last night. The teams play again tonight in a 6:35 pm game at Story Field…..Hilander Dental hosts KWRL in a 5:30 pm game at Rister Stadium in Kelso tonight. It’s the final tune up before HD plays in the Senior Legion State tournament Saturday in Yakima…..In US Open Cup soccer, the LA Galaxy eliminated the Seattle Sounders 5-2. LA is at Portland Saturday afternoon.

The South beat the North 4-0 in the West Coast League All-Star Game last night at Story Field. Kyle Nobach of Corvallis had two doubles and was named the MVP. Bellingham’s Jake Vieth won the WCL Home Run Derby with 11 long balls. The Black Bears get back into WCL action tonight, a 6:35 pm home game against the Bend Elks…..The Chicago White Sox beat the Mariners 6-1 last night. Robinson Cano’s 22nd homer was the only highlight for Seattle. Felix Hernandez makes his return from injury when he pitches against Chicago in a day game today, KLOG 11:30 am…..In a Senior Legion game with just three hits, the Puget Sound Patriots edged Hilander Dental 1-0 last night. Yancy Bird and Wes Kuzminsky combined on a two-hitter, but HD could muster just one hit.

The West Coast League All-Star Game is tonight at LCC’s Story Field. The game begins at 7:05 pm and will be preceded by the WCL Home Run Derby at 6 pm. Yeager Taylor of the Black Bears and Kelso HS player Zach Threlfall will be swinging for the fences in the Derby. Kenyon Yovan, Parker McFadden, Weston Hatten and Andy Armstrong will represent the Bears along with head coach Grady Tweit…..Adam Lind’s three-run, walk off homer in the bottom of the ninth gave the Mariners a 4-3 win over Chicago. The M’s had been held to just one hit by Chris Sale until waking up against White Sox closer David Robertson in the 9th. The teams play again tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The Hilander Dental Senior Legion team plays a non-league game at 5:30 pm in Yelm against Puget Sound.

The Timbers defeated the Sounders 3-1 in MLS action in Portland yesterday. The Timbers are undefeated in nine straight MLS matches…..The Astros beat the Mariners 8-1 yesterday as Jose Altuve had four hits including a homer. The M’s host the White Sox tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..Corvallis scored the winning run on a 10th inning wild pitch in a 9-8 victory over the Cowlitz Black Bears on Sunday. The WCL All-Star Game is tomorrow night at Story Field. The starting pitchers will be Zach Draper of Yakima and Easton Lucas of Walla Walla…..Richland defeated Longview 5-1 in the championship game of the Babe Ruth 13 State tournament at Kelso. The host team took third…..Also in Kelso, Puyallup defeated Castle Rock/Toutle Lake 10-0 in the title game of the Cal Ripken 12 State.

The Mariners return to action tonight as they host the Houston Astros, KLOG 6:00 pm…..Cowlitz scored six runs in the 7th inning to beat the Perth Heat last night. The Black Bears open at three game set at Corvallis tonight…..At the Red Devil Senior Legion tournament, Kennewick beat Hilander Dental 8-1 and the Cowlitz River Pilots over Lakeside 7-2. The action at Centralia continues today…..Kelso is 3-0 at the Babe Ruth 13 State tournament at Rister Stadium. Kelso beat Grays Harbor 15-3. Longview downed Twin Cities 6-4 before KWRL beat Longview 10-1. Longview plays Kelso at 4 pm today. Kelso lost to host Kennewick 10-0 at the 14 State…..Toledo legend and longtime patriarch of the Petersen athletic family, Larry “Pops” Petersen passed away yesterday.

The Cowlitz Black Bears edged the Perth Heat from Australia 2-1 last night. The teams will play again tonight in a 6:35 pm game at Story Field…..The Red Devil Classic Senior Legion tourney begins today at Centralia. Hilander Dental plays tonight at 8 pm. In Junior Legion, Nipp’s Burgers beat Eatonville 9-6. Brett Coons had three hits and four RBI’s…..Kelso is 2-0 at the Babe Ruth State tournament they are hosting at Rister Stadium. Kelso beat KWRL 7-5 and Twin Cities 16-10. Longview also beat Richland 12-10. Today, Longview plays Twin Cities at 1 pm, Kelso against Grays Harbor at 4 pm and Longview versus KWRL at 7 pm…..The Kelso 14’s are 2-0 at the State tourney in Kennewick. Kelso beat Richland 10-4 and downed Camas 5-4. Kelso plays host Kennewick today at 1 pm.

The American League beat the NL 4-2 in the MLB All-Star Game last night. It’s the 4th straight win for the AL. Robinson Cano walked in his only plate appearance. The M’s host Houston Friday…..The Cowlitz Black Bears host the Perth Heat from Australia tonight, 6:35 pm at Story Field…..Hilander Dental split a Senior Legion DH yesterday dropping the opener 2-0 and rallying to win the nightcap 5-4…..The Babe Ruth 13-year-old State tournament is underway in Kelso. Kelso plays KWRL at 10 am, Longview and Richland meet at 4 pm and Kelso plays Twin Cities at 7 pm. The tournament at Rister Stadium continues through Sunday…..Tonight in MLS, the Portland Timbers hosts Montreal at 7:30 pm and the Seattle Sounders are at home against DC United at 6:30 pm.

Robinson Cano ran into the homer buzz saw that is Giancarlo Stanton of the Marlins. Stanton beat Cano 24-7 in the first round of the MLB Home Run Derby. Stanton hit 61 homers in the three rounds to win the event…..Cano will be on the roster of the AL for tonight’s All-Star Game, KLOG 4:00 pm…..The West Coast League All-Star Game will be next Tuesday at Story Field. Black Bears coach Grady Tweit will coach the South team that includes Parker McFadden, Kenyon Yovan and Weston Hatten of Cowlitz. Last night Andy Armstrong hit a solo homer in the 8th to give Cowlitz a 2-1 win over Kelowna. The Bears take today off before hosting the Perth Heat of Australia tomorrow…..In Senior Legion today, Hilander Dental hosts Grays Harbor in a 4 pm DH at Mark Morris HS.

Robinson Cano hit his 21st homer to lead the Mariners to an 8-5 win over the Royals on Sunday. Cano will take part in tonight’s MLB All-Star Home Run Derby, KLOG 5:00 pm…..Kelowna scored a run in the top of the 11th inning to beat Cowlitz 3-2 last night in WCL action. The teams will play again tonight at 6:35 pm. Following the game, Zach Threlfall of Kelso HS won a home run derby to earn a spot in the WCL Derby next week…..The Kennewick Outlaws beat Hilander Dental 10-7 at the Brandy Pugh tournament yesterday. HD went 0-5 in the tourney…..Kelso beat Camas 8-5 to win the Babe Ruth District 14 tourney yesterday. Kelso goes to State in Kennewick this week. The KWRL team beat Longview 10-5 in the 13 title game. Both teams will go to State this week, hosted by Kelso.
