The Oakland A’s scored five runs in the first inning and went on to beat the Mariners 6-1. The A;s and M’s play again tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The Washington Huskies will start Cyler Miles at QB this Saturday at home against Eastern Washington. Jeff Lindquist and the UW offense struggled in the Huskies 17-16 win over Hawaii on Saturday…..The Seahawks waived Phil Bates and added Bryan Walters to the roster. The Hawks are getting ready for the NFL season opener Thursday afternoon against the Green Bay Packers. Expect big traffic problems around Century Link Field…..The Lower Columbia College volleyball team opens the season today. The Devils host Shoreline in a 5 pm match at the Mark Morris Gym. LCC has three returners and nine new freshman this season.

Broomall-Newtown, PA won the Babe Ruth World Series with a 12-3 victory over Lumber River, NC last night. Scott Hahn pitched the victory and was named the tournament Most Outstanding Player. Yancy Bird of Kelso was a 1st team All World Series selection…..The Mariners return to action tonight as they host the Washington Nationals, KLOG 6:00 pm. Felix Hernandez pitches tonight…..The Seahawks closed out the pre-season with a 41-31 loss at Oakland…..The WSU football team dropped with season opener with a 41-38 loss to Rutgers. The Huskies open the season with a game at Hawaii tomorrow, 6:30 pm on 101.5 FM The Wave…..Football Jamborees tonight include Kelso at Yelm and R.A. Long at St. Helens…..The LCC soccer team hosts Whatcom at 12 pm Saturday.

There will be free admission for the championship game of the Babe Ruth World Series tonight at Story Field, KLOG 7:00 pm. Lumber River NC beat Torrance CA 4-3 and Broomall-Newtown, PA defeated Tri-County, TX 7-3 in last night’s semi-finals. The Longview World Series Committee is offering the free admission as thanks to the community and to encourage a good crowd for the visiting kids…..The Rangers pummeled the Mariners 12-4 yesterday. The M’s have today off…..The WSU Cougars open the college football season by hosting Rutgers at Century Link in Seattle tonight…..The Seahawks close out the pre-season with a game at Oakland tonight…..The LCC women’s soccer team tied Grays Harbor 3-3 last night. The Devils host Whatcom at 12 pm Saturday.

Longview and Kelso’s run in the Babe Ruth World Series came to an end last night with quarterfinal losses. Broomall-Newtown, PA beat Longview 12-3 and Torrance, CA downed Kelso 13-3. The semi-final are tonight as Broomall-Newtown takes on Tri-County, TX at 5:05 pm followed by Torrance against Lumber River, NC at 7:35 pm. Both games live on KLOG…..The Mariners shutout Texas 5-0 last night as James Paxton got the win. The M’s are playing the Rangers in a day game today, KLOG 11:30 am…..The LCC women’s soccer team opened the season with a 5-0 win over Rogue at the NWAC Friendlies in Tukwila. Jade Reid had two goals and Sema Alvarado, Blair Bowman and Maddie White each had a goal. The Devils take on Grays Harbor at 6:30 pm at the Starfire complex.

Longview and Kelso will play back to back tonight in the quarterfinals of the Babe Ruth World Series at Story Field. Last night Torrance, CA defeated Longview 6-1, but the Longview team advanced to the bracket round. Longview Play Broomall-Newtown, PA at 5:05 pm followed by Kelso against Torrance at 7:35 pm, both on klog.com…..The Rangers blanked the Mariners 2-0 last night behind the pitching of Miles Mikolas. James Paxton will pitch against Texas tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm. The M’s announced that Felix Hernandez will be skipped in the day game tomorrow and will pitch Friday against Washington…..The LCC women’s soccer team is ready to open the season tonight at the NWAC Friendlies in Tukwila. The Devils play Rogue College at 6:30 pm.

Kelso and Longview are both in good position to advance to the bracket round of the Babe Ruth World Series. Kelso rallied for a 5-4 win over Woodinville yesterday. Kelso closed pool play at 2-2. Longview had yesterday off following a great comeback win Saturday night. Longview takes on Torrance, CA tonight at 7:35 pm, the last of four games today beginning at 12:05 pm…..The Mariners beat the Red Sox 8-6 yesterday top complete a Fenway Park sweep. The M’s host the Texas Rangers tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The Seattle Sounders beat the Portland Timbers 4-2 in MLS rivalry action yesterday…..Scott Dunlap birdied the first extra hole to beat Mark Brooks for the Boeing Classic championship at Snoqualmie Ridge.

The Babe Ruth 13-15 World Series continues with four more games on Friday. Last night Longview defeated Fargo, ND 5-3 and Lumber River, NC edged Kelso 4-3 in eight innings. The slate today features Schererville, IN versus Torrance, CA at 12:05 pm, Woodinville, WA against Lumber River at 2:35 pm, Longview battles Tri-County, TX at 5:05 pm and Kelso plays Broomall-Newtown, PA at 7:35 pm…..The Mariners return to action today when they take on the Red Sox in Boston, KLOG 3:00 pm…..The Seahawks could see some extended playing time for starters when they host the Chicago Bears in NFL Pre-Season action tonight…..The Boeing Classic gets underway at Snoqualmie Ridge today, a popular stop on the PGA Champions Golf Tour.

The Babe Ruth 13-15 World Series gets underway with four games on opening day. Waterford, Connecticut takes on Broomall-Newtown, Pennsylvania at 12:05 pm. Schererville, Indiana plays Tri-County, Texas at 2:35 pm. Kelso squares off with Lumber River, North Carolina at 5:05 pm. Longview battles Fargo, North Dakota at 7:35 pm. All four games can be heard on KLOG…..The Phillies defeated the Mariners 4-3 yesterday. The Phils take two of three games from Seattle. The M’s have an off day today before starting a three game series at Boston Friday…..The Friday night lights will be hitting our area soon. High school football practice began yesterday with non contact sessions. The local season begins on Friday September 5th.

The Babe Ruth 13-15 World Series opening ceremonies happen today at Story Field. The ten teams from across the country are in town as the games begin on Thursday. Today’s schedule is the Home Run Derby at 5 pm followed by the Pioneer Lions Burger Feed at 6 pm. The Parade of Champions and Opening Ceremonies begin at 7:30 pm tonight. You can hear most of the games on KLOG and all of the games on klog.com…..The Mariners are playing a day game at Philadelphia after taking a 5-2 victory over the Phillies Tuesday night. Hishashi Iwakuma provided eight scoreless innings and Kyle Seager hit a home run. The M’s move on to Boston for a three game set starting Friday…..Super Bowl MVP Malcolm Smith had a pick-6 in his first full day of practice for the Seahawks.

The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Seattle Mariners 4-1 yesterday. Jerome Williams got the win holding the Mariner bats in check. The teams play again today, KLOG 3:00 pm…..Trevor May improved in his second MLB start yesterday, going 4 2/3 innings with three runs, seven hits and four walks. May’s Twins lost to Kansas City 6-4…..The teams are arriving today as the Babe Ruth World Series gets underway this week. The Opening Ceremonies are Wednesday at Story Field, including the Home Run Derby and Pioneer Lions Hamburger feed. The games begin on Thursday.
