The Bears play this weekend at Bend…..The White Sox completed a four game sweep over the Mariners with a 9-5 win last night. The M’s are at Minnesota today, KLOG 4:00 pm…..Bruce Vaughn fired a 4-under 66 to take the lead after the first round of the U.S. Senior Open at Sahalee Country Club.

After a manhunt of several days, Thomas Cecil, 26, is under arrest, picked up yesterday evening as he was hiding in a West Longview storage unit. Longview Police had been looking for Cecil since last Thursday, when he allegedly dragged a LPD Detective some 60 feet with his car. The Detective was trying to arrest Cecil as a suspect in the passing of a number of bogus checks. Acting on a tip, police went to the Solo Storage complex in the 39 hundred block of Memorial Park Drive, and found Cecil sleeping on a couch inside one of the storage units. It’s reported that an accomplice of Cecil was renting the unit, and had locked Cecil inside earlier in the day. Cecil was arrested without incident, and is now being held on a laundry list of charges, including assault, forgery, fraud, ID theft and other counts. Initial bail is set at $115,000. The accomplice was also arrested on an outstanding warrant.

The Pacific Tech Legion team got off to a good start at the State tournament today, defeating Centralia 14-3 in 8 innings. Dustin Hamilton got the win and Mikey Murray had four hits. Carl Johnson, Garrett McCoy and Nolan Enriquez each had three hits. Pac Tech will play the Spokane-Bellevue winner Thursday at 4pm…..Ryan Rowland-Smith gave up all 11 runs in the White Sox 11-0 win over the Mariners. The M’s free fall continues as they have lost 18 of 24 games. Game three of the four game set is tonight, KLOG 4:00 pm…..Wenatchee defeated Cowlitz 9-4 in West Coast League action at Story Field. The Black Bears host the Apple Sox again tonight at 6:35 pm…..The WIAA has announced that the 2011 State 3A and 4A baseball finals will be played at Cheney Stadium instead of Safeco Field. The White Sox beat the Mariners 6-1 as Felix Hernandez was not sharp in taking the loss. The defending champion Apple Sox features LCC players Eric Lane, Tim Culligan, Todd Griffiths and Jeff Ames as well as pitching coach Rob Hippi. Game time is 6:35 pm. Pac Tech opens with Centralia tomorrow morning at 9 am…..Seahawks CEO Todd Leiweke resigned in order to become CEO and part owner of the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning. Leiweke is a life long hockey fan.

The Kelso Babe Ruth 15-year-old All-Stars won the State championship with a 10-7 victory over Aberdeen. Kelso qualifies for the Regional tournament next week in Klamath Falls. Mount St. Helens defeated Kelso 12-9 in the championship of the Babe Ruth 13-year-old State tourney…..Pacific Tech defeated Pullman 12-9 Sunday to capture a State tourney berth at the Legion Super Regional in Colfax. Pac Tech opens State Wednesday in Selah…..Kitsap edged Cowlitz 1-0 on West Coast League action last night. The game lasted just one hour and 45 minutes. The teams play again tonight at 7:05 pm…..The Mariners rallied to beat the Boston Red Sox 4-2 yesterday. The M’s head to Chicago to play the White Sox today, KLOG 4:00 pm.

The M’s made a game of it, but they eventually lost to the Boston Red Sox 8-6 in 13 innings last night. John Lackey had come within four outs of a no-hitter, but Seattle battled back and got it into extra innings. Eric Patterson finished things off with a two-run double in the 13th inning…..Kelowna beat the Cowlitz Black Bears 10-1 last night, with Joey Pulitano taking the loss. He gave up eight runs in four innings on eight hits, striking out one. Game two in the series is set for 6:35 pm, and its “Mini-Plunger Night,” with plungers presented to the first 100 fans…..The local Babe Ruth teams are faring well in the state tourneys, each winning yesterday’s pool play games…..The American Legion Super Regionals start tomorrow in Colfax, with the Pacific Tech team playing Wenatchee at 11 am.

Franklin Gutierrez hit a two run single in the bottom of the 11th inning giving the Mariners a 2-1 win over the White Sox. Seattle hosts the Boston Red Sox tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..Corvallis hit a walk off homer in the bottom of the 16th inning in a 5-4 victory over Cowlitz in West Coast League action last night. The Black Bears return home tonight against Kelowna, 6:35 pm start…..Pacific Tech closed out the Legion regular season with a sweep over Sumner 11-2 and 8-2. Pac Tech opens the playoffs Saturday in Colfax against Bellingham…..The locals all won on the opening day of the State Babe Ruth tournaments. The Kelso 15’s beat Richland 17-4 and the Longview 15’s edged Kennewick 7-6. The Kelso 14’s beat Kennewick 14-4. The Kelso 13’s shutout Kennewick 2-0.

The Mariners were held to just two hits as the White Sox beat Seattle 4-0 last night. The M’s will try and salvage one game in the series finale tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The Cowlitz Black Bears will also try and get a win in the finale of a three game set at Corvallis tonight. The Knights beat the Black Bears 7-2 last night…..The Pacific Tech Legion team will host Sumner in a 4 pm double header today at Rister Stadium in Kelso…..The State Babe Ruth tourneys begin today. The 15’s are at Chehalis where Longview plays Kennewick today at 10 am and Kelso squares off with Richland at 1 pm. The 14’s are in Pullman with Kelso playing Richland at 1 pm. The 14’s are at Lacey with Kelso playing at 12 pm…..The UW football team dismissed TE Kavario Middleton for violating team rules.
