KLOG Tuesday Sports

The Blazers take on the Pistons in Detroit today, KLOG 3:35 pm. Portland remains 1 1/2 games out of the final playoff spot…..Gonzaga slipped to #4 in yesterday’s AP poll after the Bulldogs first loss of the season. Kansas is the new #1…..The Mark Morris boys have one more full day of preparation for tomorrows 2A Final game with Foss in Yakima. The game will be on FM 101.5 The Wave beginning at 12 pm tomorrow…..The Royals beat the Mariners 14-3 yesterday. Jean Segura had three hits including a double and a homer. Felix Hernandez gets his first spring start today as Seattle plays the White Sox, KLOG 12 pm…..The LCC baseball team opens the season this Friday. The Devils host Linn Benton in a 3 pm double header. LCC plays six games at home this weekend.

Toronto beat Portland 112-106 in Sunday NBA action. The Blazers move on to Detroit to play the Piston tomorrow…..WSU completed a season sweep over Washington with a 79-71 victory in men’s Pac-12 action yesterday. The Huskies have lost a school-record 10 straight games…..Both LCC hoop teams beat Grays Harbor on Saturday. The LCC women clinch the West Region title while the Red Devil men clinch a playoff berth. Both teams are at South Puget Sound Wednesday night…..Selah beat Mark Morris 100-90 in double overtime Saturday in the 2A State playoffs. The Monarchs face a loser-out game against Foss Wednesday at 12:15 pm at the Yakima SunDome…..The Mariners beat the Padres 13-2 Sunday. The M’s play the Royals today, KLOG 11:00 am.

The WIAA State Regionals are this weekend including the Mark Morris boys taking on Selah in Ellensburg tomorrow. The game at CWU gets underway at 4 pm, 3:45 pm on FM 101.5 The Wave. It is not a loser-out game as both teams will be going to the Final 12 in Yakima…..The Blazers beat the Magic in Orlando yesterday 112-103. Portland plays at Toronto on Sunday…..Gonzaga rolled over San Diego 96-38 last night. The Zags remain unbeaten…..The LCC basketball teams play its final home games on Saturday as Grays Harbor comes to town. The women’s game is at 5 pm and the men’s action at 7 pm…..The LCC softball team opens the season tomorrow with a pair of games at Everett. The Devils play Everett at 11 am and Bellevue at 4 pm.

The Lower Columbia College basketball teams came up with a sweep at Centralia last night. The LCC women beat the Blazers 53-49 as Madison Crews hit four three-pointers in the 4th quarter to lead the way in her hometown. LCC is now 11-1 in league. The LCC men beat the Blazers 77-69 as Devin Johnson scored 32. The final LCC home games of the season are Saturday…..Dillon Brooks hit a three just before the buzzer as the Ducks beat Cal 68-65 last night. Also, Stanford downed OSU 79-66. #1 Gonzaga is at San Diego tonight…..Back to work for the Trail Blazers tonight as they take on the Magic in Orlando, KLOG 3:05 pm….UW football coach Chris Petersen has hired former Ducks assistant Mark Lubick to join the staff as QB coach and co-offensive coordinator.

The Lower Columbia College basketball teams have big games at Centralia tonight, both on KLOG starting at 5:55 pm. The women’s game at 6 pm features two teams tied on top of the West division with 10-1 records. LCC won the first matchup in Longview. The men’s game at 8 pm features a Red Devil team in search of traction towards the playoffs…..The Blazers have one more night off before resumption following the All-Star break. Portland visits Orlando tomorrow…..Kalama basketball fans will have to travel near and far for the WIAA State Regionals this weekend. The Kalama girls play St. Georges Friday in a 6 pm matchup at Mark Morris. The Kalama boys also play St. Georges on Saturday, but have to go all the way to University HS in Spokane for the 6 pm showdown.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs are once again #1 in the latest AP college basketball poll. The undefeated Bulldogs are followed by #4 Arizona, #5 UCLA and #6 Oregon…..The LCC basketball teams have big games at Centralia tomorrow night. Both games can be heard on KLOG beginning at 5:55 pm…..Yesterday was Photo Day at Mariners Spring Training. The team will begin full scale workouts today as they get ready for the first game Saturday against the Padres…..In college baseball yesterday, Oregon State beat Indiana 4-1 in Arizona. Christian Fruend of Kelso won the 3A 138 pound state championship at the Mat Classic in Tacoma Saturday. Kelso ended up second as a team…..The matchups have been set after the high school District tournaments this past weekend. The 2A boys bracket features #5 Mark Morris against #4 Selah Saturday at 4 pm at CWU in Ellensburg. In the boys 2A, #14 Kalama plays #11 St. Georges Saturday at 6 pm at University HS. Kalama beat Wahkiakum in the girls 2B District final. The Mules are seeded #2 and will play #7 Davenport Saturday at 4 pm at Mark Morris. Kalama is #3 and will play #6 St. Georges Friday at 6 pm at MM……Today was picture day at Mariners Spring Training. The first full-squad workout was hampered by rain yesterday.

Kelso has 19 wrestlers entered into the Mat Classic at the Tacoma Dome beginning today…..Columbia River defeated R.A. Long 40-38 at the 2A boys District last night, ending the Jacks season. The Mark Morris boys take on Woodland tonight for the District title at St. Martins in Lacey, 7:45 on FM 101.5 The Wave…..The MM girls play Washougal tomorrow at 7 pm in Woodland, winner to State…..The LCC basketball teams are at Highline tomorrow, women at 12 pm, men at 2 pm…..The LCC baseball team will get out on renovated Story Field tomorrow for three seven inning scrimmage games with Clackamas at 11 am…..The LCC Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet is tonight at 6:30 pm at Myklebust Gym. Bill Stoller, Mick Brusco, Carol Carlson and Mike McNeilly will be inducted.

The Blazers head to the All-Star break with a loss to Utah 111-88. Portland is off until next Thursday…..Both LCC teams beat Green River last night. The women downed the Gators 72-36 and the men beat Green River 84-66…..The Huskies host Arizona State tonight, KLOG 7:30 pm. Also, Arizona is at WSU, Utah at Oregon, Colorado at Oregon State and San Francisco at Gonzaga…..The Kelso boys basketball season came to and end with a 58-53 loss to Capital at the 3A Bi-District. The Scots finish 18-6. R.A. Long hopes to stay alive with a win over Columbia River tonight at the 2A District. The game is at 7 pm at MM…..The Mark Morris girls beat Woodland 72-36 to stay alive at the 2A District. The Monarchs play Washougal Saturday at Woodland for a berth to State.

The Mark Morris boys will play Woodland for the 2A District title Friday night. The Monarchs beat Centralia 77-61, while the Beavers downed R.A. Long 69-51. The Jacks try and stay alive tomorrow night against River at MM. The Kelso boys will try and stay alive at the 3A Bi-District when they take on Capital tonight, KLOG 5:55 pm…..The Kelso Lassies season ended with a 38-30 loss to Peninsula last night. The Mark Morris girls face a loser-out game tonight against Woodland at RAL, FM 101.5 The Wave 6:45 pm…..The LCC basketball teams are at home tonight against the Green River Gators. The women’s game at 6 pm and the men’s game at 8 pm…..The Trail Blazers have one more game before the All-Star break as the play at Utah tonight, KLOG after the Kelso boys playoff.
