KLOG Tuesday Sports

The Cleveland Indians completed a four game sweep of the Mariners with a 10-8 win yesterday. Seattle comes home to take on the Angels tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The Kelso Lassies won one out of three games yesterday at the 3A Bi-District softball tournament, but they won the one they had to have. Kelso edged Bonney Lake 8-7 to advance. Peninsula downed Kelso 1-0 in the semi-final and Prairie defeated Kelso 3-1 in the third place game. Kelso opens 3A State at Lacey against Kamiakin Friday at 12 pm…..The State golf tournaments are underway this morning. Logan Davis of Kelso is in the 3A boys action at Tri-Mountain. Kayli Thompson of Kelso is playing in the 3A girls at Lewis River. MM’s Dave Belt is at the 2A Boys at Chambers Bay and Megan Schulz of MM is in the 2A girls.

The Cleveland Indians shutout Felix Hernandez and the Mariners 6-0 on Sunday. The M’s and Tribe are playing a day game today…..Tacoma hit a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the 12th inning to beat Lower Columbia 5-3 yesterday. The injury depleted Devils were one-strike away on a couple of occasions. LCC misses out on the NWAACC tourney, which begins Thursday at Story Field. Tacoma will be joined by Pierce, Linn-Benton, Yakima Valley, Bellevue. Mt. Hood, Everett and Treasure Valley…..Oregon State defeated Oregon 12-2 to take the Civil War rubber game yesterday…..The Kelso Lassies take on Bonney Lake in the 3A Bi-District softball quarterfinals today at 11 am. The action is at Sprinker Fields in Spanaway.

Seattle put a patchwork crew together on the mound, and that was just enough to get past the NY Yankees last night, 3-2. The M’s now move onto Cleveland for a three-game series, KLOG coverage starts at 3 pm…..The LCC Lady Devils open up the NWAACC softball championships today down at Delta Park in Portland. Their first game is against Columbia Basin, and then they’ll be taking on Wenatchee Valley…..The Kelso Lassies are playing in the 3A Bi-District Tournament at the Sprinker Fields in Spanaway. The opponent in today’s game is Shelton…..In the 2A District Tournament, R. A Long will be taking on Capital at 4 pm, being played at Ft. Borst Park in Centralia…..The Clatskanie Tigers bear Rainier 3-1 in a seeding game. Both teams will now have road playoff games next week.

Raul Ibanez hit a grand slam and a two-run homer leading the Mariners to a 12-2 pounding of the New York Yankees. The M’s go for the series win today, KLOG 3:00 pm…..Tacoma defeated Lower Columbia 12-4 yesterday in the West Region baseball tiebreaker. The Devils go back to Tacoma for a best of three playoff series Saturday and Sunday, if necessary…..Play begins today at the 2A District softball tournament in Centralia. Mark Morris plays Aberdeen and R.A. Long takes on Tumwater, both at 4 pm. Yesterday Woodland won two games at the 1A District to punch a ticket to State. Kalama was ousted in two games. At the 2B District, Toutle Lake won two to advance to State…..The NBA Board of Governors voted to turn down the sale of the Kings that featured a move to Seattle.

The New York Yankees rallied to beat Seattle 4-3 yesterday. The M’s were leading 3-1 when Felix Hernandez tweaked his back and was taken out of the game. He says he’ll be fine. The Yanks host the M’s again today, KLOG 3:00 pm…..The LCC baseball team is at Tacoma today at 4 pm in a West Region tie-breaker game. The winner will host a best of three playoff series this weekend…..In the Oregon baseball playoffs, Clatskanie edged Warrenton 6-5 in 8 innings to advance to State. The Tigers play at Rainier for seeding Thursday…..In softball, it was Warrenton over Clatskanie 8-7 in 8 innings, ending the Tigers season…..The 1A and 2B District softball tournaments are going on today at Fort Borst Park in Centralia.

The Mariners take on the Yankees in the Bronx today, KLOG 3:00 pm…..Addie Bailey hit a 7th inning grand slam homer to give R.A. Long a 7-5 win over Ridgefield. The big hit not only wins the game, but it puts the Jills into the District 2A softball tourney starting Thursday. Also, Hockinson beat Mark Morris 11-4. The Monarchs are also going to District…..The LCC softball team was awarded the 7th seed into the NWAACC tourney starting Friday. The Devils open up at 9:30 am against Columbia Basin at Delta Park in Portland…..Kayli Thompson fired a 97 at the 3A girls Bi-District golf tourney to take 6th place and qualify for State next week. Day two of the girls 2A District golf continues at the Home Course in Dupont. The 1A District is today at Three Rivers.

Joe Saunders won his ninth straight decision at Safeco Field, pitching the Mariners to a 6-1 win over Oakland on Sunday. The M’s have today off before hosting the Yankees on Tuesday…..After splitting four games with Tacoma, The LCC baseball team will play a one-game tie-breaker at Tacoma Wednesday at 4 pm. The winner will then host a best of three series this weekend for an NWAACC berth…..The LCC softball team is in the NWAACC tourney for the 21st season. The action begins Friday in Portland…..In prep softball today, R.A. Long visits Ridgefield, Mark Morris is at Hockinson and Toutle Lake is at Castle Rock…..The girls 2A District golf tournament is underway at The Home Course in Dupont, near Tacoma.

The Mariners host the Oakland A’s tonight, KLOG 6:00 pm…..The Kelso girls track team won the 3A District meet. The Kelso boys were third…..Kelso beat Mt. View 5-2 in 3A District softball action. The Lassies host Prairie in the title game today at 4 pm. Also, R.A. Long is at home against Mark Morris today at 4 pm…..The LCC softball team hosts Mt. Hood in a 3 pm double header today…..The LCC baseball team is also at home for two games against Tacoma today at 3:30 pm…..Centralia eliminated Mark Morris 2-0 in 2A District action last night…..In semi-pro football, the Washington Cavaliers play Snohomish in a 6 pm game Saturday night at Kelso HS…..The AMA West Coast Amateur National’s stop in Castle Rock Saturday for motorcycle racing at 12 pm and 7 pm.

Felix Hernandez got the win and Jesus Montero hit the game winning homer in the Mariners 2-1 win over Pittsburgh. The M’s have tonight off…..Tumwater scored 12 runs in the 6th inning and beat Mark Morris 12-4 in 2A District baseball action. MM will try and bounce back Saturday against Capital…..The 3A District softball tourney begins today at Tam O’Shanter in Kelso. River plays Mt. View at 4 pm and the winner plays Kelso at 6 pm…..The 3A District track & field meet concludes today in Vancouver. Event winners for Kelso yesterday were Kiana Davis (2), Jamilee Iddings, Bri Sorenson and Somit Chimn…..The Mark Morris boys soccer team can advance to the 2A State bracket with a win at Centralia tonight. The 7:30 pm match is a loser out contest.

The Mariners and Pirates are playing a day game today in Pittsburgh with Felix Hernandez pitching for Seattle. Last night, the Bucs beat the M’s 4-1…..Shelton outlasted Kelso 2-1 in 9 innings at the 3A Bi-District baseball tourney. The Scots are eliminated. Mark Morris beat Centralia 10-3 to advance to the 2A District semi-finals tonight at 6 pm. MM plays Tumwater at Chehalis…..LCC split a softball DH with SW Oregon, winning 7-1 and losing 6-5…..The MM softball team hosts Washougal today…..Ridgefield beat MM 4-1 in the 2A District soccer playoffs. The Monarchs play Centralia Friday in a loser out game…..The 3A District track meet begins today at McKenzie Stadium in Vancouver…..The Three River Christian girls tennis team wins the 1B State Academic Championship.
