The Cathlamet Public Library is the recipient of one of a number of grants being presented to rural libraries across the state, helping them to digitize and preserve historic items, documents and images. Earlier this week, the Washington State Library reported that the Cathlamet Blanche Bradley Public Library and the Wahkiakum County Museum received a Washington Rural Heritage grant in the amount of $5,750. They used that money to create “Wahkiakum County Heritage,” a collection of photographs and other items that offer a glimpse into the lives of early settlers, founding families and noteworthy citizens of the area. The collection also looks into the early days of forestry, fishing and farming industries in that region. You can view the collection on-line by going to www.washingtonruralheritage/wahkiakum.
