A big exercise is planned for tomorrow near Castle Rock, where Cowlitz County Search and Rescue will be joining with several other local agencies for a training event. Cowlitz County Emergency Management says that more than 60 people will be involved in tomorrow’s exercise, involving at least six local agencies. The scenario will be that individuals are missing in a heavily-wooded area, and those people must be found, assessed, treated, rescued and transported. Ground resources will deploy at 7 tomorrow morning out of the SAR Compound in Kelso, along with search aircraft launching from the Airport in Kelso. The exercise itself is scheduled to run from 8 am until 6 pm, working in an area north of Silver Lake, off of George Taylor Road.
The Sheriff’s Office also plans to offer Courtesy Boat Inspections on Sunday, working at the Willow Grove Boat Launch and the Kalama Marina. Free safety inspections will be offered between 11 am and 3 pm at both locations; those inspections can be done on the water or on trailered boats. Each vessel passing inspection will receive a 2015 Marine Safety Decal. Other safe boating information will also be available. Call Deputy Jordan Spencer at 577-3092 if you have other questions.
