Teresa Hernandez, 33, of Woodland is under arrest, accused of abusing the three year-old son of her live-in boyfriend. Woodland Police say that this got started at about 4:45 yesterday afternoon, when staff at Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital in Vancouver reported that they suspected that the child’s injuries were the result of abuse. The boy had burns on his hands, along with severe head trauma. A WPD Detective went to the hospital, where he interviewed the boy’s father and Hernandez. As a result of those interviews, the Detective learned that she had allegedly used a hot iron to burn the back of the boy’s hand, and had allegedly pushed him down a flight of stairs at the couple’s apartment on South Pekin Road. Hernandez is now being held without bail in the Cowlitz County Jail on two counts of first-degree abuse of a child. The three year-old was transferred to Randall Children’s Hospital in Portland, where he’s currently listed in serious, but stable condition.
