Starting today and running through June 2nd, local law enforcement officers will be joining in a “Click It or Ticket” emphasis campaign, putting out extra patrols that will be looking for unbuckled drivers and passengers. In addition, they’ll be on the lookout for drivers using cell phones for talking or texting. During a similar emphasis effort last year, more than 11,000 stops were made statewide, with more than 3,100 seat belt violations recorded. Also, more than 1,000 cell phone violation tickets were written. This also coincides with the child car seat violation patrols that the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office has been conducting over the past few weeks. All of these extra patrols are in conjunction with the “Target Zero” effort that is under way, striving to end traffic deaths and serious injuries in Washington state by the year 2030.
