The final nail in the coffin of consolidation or closure of school buildings in Longview is now in place, after action taken at last night’s Longview School Board meeting, where they officially took action to reject the recommendation from the Facilities Planning Committee, also taking a stand to NOT consolidate any schools at this time. Susie Kirkpatrick with “Save Longview Schools” says that while this was a victory for public sentiment, now they need to turn their attention to passing the levy that’s on the February ballot…savelvschools…In making the motion to officially kill the FPC recommendation, new School Board member J. D. Rosetti also said that “doing nothing” is not an option for the district. Other School Board members agree with that sentiment, and consensus was reached that a framework for long-term study of the district’s building needs will be a topic if discussion in the upcoming budget development. They also say that the work done by the Facilities Planning Committee will be extremely valuable as that process moves ahead. They also thank the people who were involved in that process for their dedication and many hours of hard work.
