Cowlitz County has a budget for 2014 and 2015, adopted yesterday morning by the County Commissioners. While the county’s financial picture is improving somewhat, this budget still includes personnel cuts and no cost-of-living raises for non-union personnel, management and elected officials not covered by the State Salary Commission. Commissioner Jim Misner says that this document reflects a new way of doing county business…countybudget…While the budget does have a final personnel reduction of about 13 full-time-equivalent positions, the rearranging of county structures is allowing the restoration of several positions, mostly in the areas of Law and Justice. Finance Director Claire Hauge says that a number of these restored positions have been vacant since 2009. Some of the other cost-cutting measures include the closure of the third floor at the Hall of Justice, along with the elimination of the county Work Release program. Management of several parks are being turned over to other agencies, and a number of tasks are being shifted to on-line applications.
