The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reports that searchers have reached the site near Morton where a small plane crashed on Monday, and they’ve confirmed that there were no survivors in the crash. The victims are identified as eye surgeon Dr. Paul Shenk of Woodland, laser technician Rod Rinta of
Chehalis and contract pilot Ken Sabin of Chehalis. The three had taken off Monday morning in a plane owned by Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute, heading for Lewiston, Idaho. About ten minutes after takeoff, Sabin reported engine trouble, and attempted to turn back to Chehalis. Around 7:45 am, some loggers working in the area reported hearing a crash, and the crash site was discovered late yesterday morning. Sheriff Steve Mansfield says that it looks like the plane disintegrated on impact. Mansfield hasn’t said yet if the victims have been recovered from the wreckage. The FAA is now joining the investigation into the crash, as the Lewis County Coroner’s Office takes charge of the bodies.
