The Columbia Theatre for the Performing Arts renovation project is one of this year’s recipients of a state award for Outstanding Achievement in Historic Preservation. The Washington Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation announced this year’s awards yesterday, making presentations to 13 individuals and organizations. The Columbia Theatre was one of two Rehabilitation projects that was honored. It’s noted that this project is Cowlitz County’s first DAHP award-winner, and recognizes the hight quality work that was done. DAHP officials say that the project has restored the character of what they say is an “elegant” community performing arts center. They also say that the CTPA is now a “first-class venue” for top-name performers, but also raises awareness of preserving Longview’s unique heritage as a 1920’s planned community. Award recipients will be recognized in a special ceremony set for May 4th in Olympia.
