The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office reports that a mushroom picker from Auburn who had been reported as missing back on September 28th has been found dead in the woods near Packwood. Chief Deputy Stacy Brown reports that the body of the 68 year-old man was found by family members who had gone into the woods to continue the search, after the official search was suspended. They reported finding the body near the top of a ridge above Williams Creek. Brown says that the body was located in what was the primary search area, but she also notes that this area is very densely forested, rugged, steep and dangerous terrain. An initial examination indicates that the picker died from hypothermia. The body has been turned over to the Lewis County Coroner; autopsy results are pending.
