Dog Rescue

Greg Packwell of Longview says that he and his dog still plan to return to the Gerhart Gardens Dog Park, this coming after a Saturday incident that required firefighters to rescue his Labrador Retriever. Packwell called 911 at about 3:30 on Saturday, saying that his dog had become stuck in the mud as they were playing by the river. Packwell says that he tried to rescue the dog, but he feared getting stuck himself. Firefighters eventually put on life jackets and then used a ladder to reach the dog; they then had to use their bare hands to dig the mud away from the dog and were able to get him out after being stuck in the mud for more than 20 minutes. They say that the dog was hypothermic when it was brought out, but he eventually warmed up and revived.
