Longview Police say that a young man apparently had a seizure while he was driving in the 1900 block of 33rd Avenue, crashing into a phone junction box and an apartment building before his car caught fire. The crash happened at about 2:50 pm, at 1912 33rd Avenue. By the time Longview Police and fire crews arrived, bystanders had already pulled the driver from the burning vehicle. An examination of the scene shows that the car had left the street, hit the communications vault, glanced off of the apartment building, and then hit a parked car before catching fire. Fire officials say that the apartment building was threatened by the fire, but bystanders also got most of the fire out before it spread. A set of stairs did suffer some damage. The driver had been going in and out of consciousness before paramedics arrived, but he was fully conscious by the time they got on the scene. The driver was described as a male in his 20’s, and his injuries were not described as serious. He was taken to St. John Medical Center for treatment and further evaluation; his name has not been released. Longview Police continue to investigate the incident.
