The victims in Tuesday’s drowning incidents on the East Fork of the Lewis River are being identified as Clark County residents. Sean Margetis, 44, of Vancouver died around 4 pm, after he had jumped into the river at Moulton Falls Park, and then failed to resurface. About 45 minutes later, a body was spotted in the river near the Lewis River Golf Course; that person was recovered and was eventually identified as Donald Kemper, 80, of Ridgefield. Kemper was eventually connected to an empty aluminum boat that was found snagged in some debris just upriver from where his body was found. It’s noted that neither man was wearing a life jacket; you’re also reminded that local rivers are still running extremely cold and strong, conditions that will quickly tax even the strongest swimmers.
