Samuel Thomas Oester, 22, of Longview is under arrest after a shoplifting incident at the Super Wal-Mart in Longview. Store security reported that they had a shoplifter in custody at about 8:20 yesterday morning. As Longview Police were taking the suspect into custody, he informed Officers that he had swallowed four baggies of heroin just prior to his arrest. The suspect said that he’d swallowed about 2 1/2 grams. The suspect was immediately taken to St. John Medical Center, and was held for observation through the day. The balloons finally “passed,” and the suspect was cleared from the hospital shortly after 10 pm. During the day, LPD did some more checking, and found that Oester had originally given them a false name. His identity was confirmed, then Oester was booked on charges of third-degree theft, drug possession, and first-degree criminal impersonation. Initial bail has been set at $35,000.
