The annual “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign begins today and runs through September 2nd. The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office and the police departments in Kelso, Longview, Castle Rock, Kalama, and Woodland are joining the State Patrol in additional patrols over that period, focused on finding drivers under the influence of alcohol, marijuana or other intoxicants. The Washington Traffic Safety Commission says that the goal of the extra patrols is to help make sure that you and your family is safe on the road during this vacation travel time. Last year, 33 people were arrested for DUI in Cowlitz County during this emphasis period. This is all aligned with the “Target Zero” campaign, a state-wide effort to end traffic deaths and serious injuries on the roads by 2030.
