The Grand Finale of the “Dig Into Reading” summer reading program at the libraries wraps up today, with a special program planned at the Longview Public Library. Youth Services Librarian Jan Hanson says that kids can start coming by around 2 pm today, where they can learn to pan for gold and how to use metal detectors. In fact, they’ll be giving away a White metal detector to the child who wins the grand prize in the Book Gold reading contest. Ecotech will have a display on recycling precious metals, Home Depot will also have construction kits for kids to build and take home. The Pioneer Lions will be serving free hot dogs and snow cones, they’ll have live music, a pirate treasure hunt, a fossil dig, and heavy equipment demonstrations from the City of Longview. It’s free and open to all area kids.
