The town of Toledo is mourning the death of a long-time volunteer and scout for the Toledo High School football team. Gary Ike, 54, died Wednesday night after a fire at his home near Ethel, just off Highway 12. The fire was reported at about midnight on Wednesday, and when fire crews from Toledo arrived on the scene, the home was engulfed in flames. After the fire was finally out, Ike’s body was found inside. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and an autopsy is planned for today. Ike had been a volunteer with Toledo High School for more than 30 years; he did a lot of work as an advance scout for the football team, and also assisted with the basketball and baseball teams. Grief counselors were on hand in the Toledo schools yesterday, and a moment of silence is planned tonight at Castle Rock High School, where the Indians and the Rockets will play their final game of the regular season.
