Firefighters from Cowlitz Fire Districts 2 and 5 had a successful “Fill the Boot” effort on Friday, collecting more than $6,000 from persons who drove by the Allen Street intersection with the Three Rivers Mall. The final count was $6,072, bringing this year’s Fill the Boot collection total to $12,572. Cowlitz 2 Lieutenant Jason Sanders say that they’d like to thanks everyone who donated, along with local businesses that helped support the effort. Dutch Brothers, Burger King and Red Lobster all allowed the firefighters to set up collection boots at those facilities, while also providing refreshments for the firefighters. Sanders say that it was a lot of fun, and he says that they’re extremely pleased with the results, given the challenging economic times. All proceeds are going to the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation.
