Interview dates are now set for the three finalists for the top slot in the Kelso School District. The names of the finalists for the job that Glenys Hill is vacating in July were announced yesterday. Gustavo Balderas of Hillsboro is set to come in on Tuesday, April 12th, Ann Varkados of Bethel will arrive on Wednesday, April 13th, and Mike Parker of Hoquiam will be interviewed on Thursday, April 14th. Balderas currently works as an assistant superintendent for the Hillsboro School District, overseeing technology services, Hispanic outreach, safety, construction management, facilities, athletics and activities, nutrition services and transportation. Varkados is the assistant superintendent for instruction in the Bethel School District near Tacoma, serving in that position since 2004. She also served as an elementary school principal in Kalama between 1996 and ’98. Parker has been the Hoquiam Superintendent since 2006, serving as the Superintendent in Concrete before that. The district plans site visits prior to the interviews. During the visits to Kelso, there will be interview sessions with district employees and the School Board, along with community forums. Following those interviews, the Board plans to meet on April 15th to discuss qualifications, assess compatibility with Kelso Schools, then will go into open session to consider possible action to offer the position.
