Recent rainfall and milder temperatures have state officials easing some of the fire restrictions on the west side of the Cascades. Public Lands Commissioner Peter Goldmark announced yesterday that the ban on recreational fires in approved fire pits in established campgrounds is being lifted. The move applies only to the west side of the Cascades, and only applies to fires in campgrounds. Other outdoor burning is still banned in the western part of the state, and all outdoor burning is banned east of the Cascades. The ban on campfires and use of charcoal briquettes in western Washington state parks is also lifted, effective immediately. Find out more by going to the Department of Natural Resources website.
