Third District Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler reports that a bipartisan bill intended to help Pacific Northwest fishermen is through the House Natural Resources Committee, and is on its way to the House floor. Beutler says that the Revitalizing the Economy of Fisheries in the Pacific Act would provide relief to commercial anglers in Washington, Oregon and California, allowing them to adjust their federal loan rates to more closely match rates paid by other businesses. It would also extend the length of those loans from 30 to 45 years. Cost recovery fees paid to NOAA would also be reduced. Beutler says that she optimistic that this bill will move forward with help from both Democrats and Republicans, along with assistance from Maria Cantwell in the Senate. The next step will be a vote by the full House, but a date for that vote hasn’t yet been announced.
