The Washington State Department of Health is reporting that the influenza season in Washington is at its peak, with 19 lab-confirmed deaths in the state, including two in Lewis County. As that influenza peak is reached, St. John Medical Center in Longview is imposing some visitation restrictions at the Birth Center; people with fevers, a cough or sore throat symptoms will not be allowed in the Birth Center at this time. Only two visitors will be allowed at a time, and kids 18 or under are prohibited, unless they’re a sibling of the patient. The Washington Health Department reports that most of the people testing positive have the H1N1 strain, which is causing the more serious health issues. Health officials say that there’s still value in getting a flu shot, and they also urge that you exercise good handwashing and cough control habits.
