The Forest Service reports that a small wildfire is now burning in the Goat Rocks Wilderness north of Mount Adams. This is being dubbed the Coal Creek Mountain Fire, and was discovered on Wednesday, burning in steep and extremely rugged terrain. Right now, the fire is estimated to be less than ten acres in size; they’re currently using “aviation assets” that were dealing with the Conrad Lake Fire in the Wenatchee National Forest. So far, there are no road or trail closures connected with this fire; it’s also reported that smoke from the fire may be visible from Highway 12, and in the Packwood area. Forest Service officials say that this fire was started by a lightning strike.
