The Highlands Neighborhood Association presented its first-ever “Good Neighbor Awards” last night. Today’s Daily News reports that awards were presented to Nellie Flubacher, Floyd Willet and J. Coy Middleton. Flubacher and Willet are long-time residents of the Highlands; Flubacher has lived in her home on 17th Avenue for 20 years, while Willet has lived in the 200 block of 18th Avenue for 30 years. Both are well-known for their community involvement. Middleton lives in the 300 block of 17th, and is a leader of the HNA’s rapid response graffiti removal team, and helps coordinate block cleanups. Middleton also gets credit for coming up with the idea of distributing energy-efficient light bulbs to every home, to try and get people to light up their front porches. Longview Police Chief Alex Perez presented plaques to each winner at last night’s ceremony.
