Hours Cut

Posted on 20th September 2013 at 16:08

Citing a reduced patient load, managers at St. John Medical Center are reported to be cutting hours and positions for nursing staff at the hospital. Today’s Daily News reports that some nurses are being asked to consider voluntary layoffs or reductions in hours worked, particularly in the “acute care tower.” The paper cites the PeaceHealth Columbia Network Director of Communications and Marketing, Ken Cole, as saying that if there are fewer patients, then you need fewer caregivers. There have been no specifics discloses about the number of nurses that are being affected; PeaceHealth is in the midst of a major cost-cutting move, working to close what they say is a $130 million budget shortfall. PeaceHealth officials have previously stated that they’re going to avoid cuts that affect bedside care.
