Three people are recovering from injuries received in a rollover crash that took place yesterday morning on I-5 north of Castle Rock. At about 6:20 yesterday morning, Ampelia Sanches, 49, of Castle Rock was driving northbound at milepost 56, a little ways north of the Toutle River Rest Stop. The tread on the right rear tire separated, causing her to lose control. Sanches hit the median barrier, and then rolled her SUV several times, coming to rest in the middle of the roadway. Andrew Kuni, 49, of Portland was unable to stop in time, and hit the damaged SUV. Sanches was unhurt, but three of her passengers were injured. All three were treated and released from St. John Medical Center. Troopers blame the crash on a defective tire; Sanches was cited for having no insurance.
