Starting next week, the second and final stage of an I-5 widening project in Centralia will kick into high gear. The Washington Department of Transportation says that the Blakeslee Junction to Mellen Street project will get underway, with nighttime lane closures, traffic shifts and roadside work planned through 2015. Crews will be building new lanes to connect with a recently-completed bridge just north of the outlet stores; at Mellen Street, a new bridge is being built for local traffic flow through Centralia. This is the last project in a eight-stage, $168 million project to improve safety and congestion through that stretch of the freeway. Completion is currently projected for late in the year 2015.
