Juelene Perez Owens, 37, of Mossyrock is being charged with first-degree theft, accused of stealing more than $350,000 in insurance and prescription claims. Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler announced the charges against Owens, saying that she illegally obtained benefits for her boyfriend through her employer, the U. S. Postal Service. They say that the thefts date back to 2004, when Owens was first hired by the Postal Service. On her enrollment forms, Owens stated that she was married, when she was not. They say that Owens also indicated that she was married on an updated form in 2011. When asked to produce a marriage certificate in 2014, Owens reportedly said that she thought that she didn’t need one, claiming to be married under common law. Owens is being charged in Lewis County Superior Court.
