JHB Mental Health Letter

Posted on 30th November 2017 at 07:57

Third District Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler is adding her name to a letter with 11 other federal legislators, asking for “robust funding” of mental health and substance abuse programs in the 2019 budget. Democrat Earl Blumenauer of Oregon is among the Representatives that signed the letter, which was sent to the Office of Management and Budget. In the letter, the signees say that they are “committed to building better futures for individuals and families that are affected by mental illness.” They also mention that the opioid crisis has made matters worse, exhausting the attempts to find solutions on mental health and substance abuse disorders. The group says that they strongly support investments into research, prevention and treatment programs, reaching out to citizens in need, while also increasing coordination between agencies. The 12 members of Congress urge the OMB to prioritize funding for programs that focus on mental illness, substance abuse disorders and suicide prevention.
