KapStone Negotiations

Posted on 30th June 2015 at 09:12

As the ten-day strike notice from Local 153 of the Association of Western Pulp and Paperworkers passes, no settlement has been reached, but there has also been no strike call. Negotiators for the company and the union met yesterday for the first time since the notice was delivered. Union officials say that they are continuing to talk with KapStone, but they also say that strike preparations are also being made. It has also been confirmed that both sides have contacted federal mediators, but those people have not yet been called in. The union also sent a letter to its membership, saying that another negotiation session is planned for next Monday. Contract talks between KapStone and the AWPPW have been going on for more than a year, with health care benefits, seniority rules, disability and job transfers as the main points of contention.
