KHS Principal Award

Posted on 11th April 2018 at 09:18

Kelso High School Principal John Gummel is being honored as Washington’s High School Principal of the Year, an award just announced by the Association of Washington Principals. AWSP officials say that nominations came in from the 500 high schools across the state, and the award was presented yesterday in a “surprise assembly” that was set up at the school. TDN reports on the presentation, where Scott Seaman of the AWSP said that they are looking for principals that are “committed, devoted and believe in the heart and soul of their school.” Superintendent Glenn Gelbrich says that Gummel “creates space for leadership for others,” allowing teachers, students and staff to be leaders. Gummel says that awards like this don’t happen without “tremendous staff” that believes in the kids and in the work that’s being done. This is the first time that anyone in Cowlitz County has been named as Washington’s Principal of the Year.
