October 6th through the 12th is National Fire Prevention Week, and the theme for this year’s observance is “Prevent Kitchen Fires,” noting that most home fires start in the kitchen. The Longview Fire Department can now point to a prime example, after dealing with a kitchen fire yesterday evening at a home on 17th Avenue. Fire crews were called to 557 17th Avenue at about 6:40 pm, when some peanut oil caught fire. Firefighters say that they had light smoke showing from both levels of the home when they rolled up a few minutes later. There’s no word yet on how much damage was done; it also does not appear that anyone was injured in the fire.
