The Environmental Health Unit of the Cowlitz County Health Department is holding a public hearing this evening, where they plan to take comment on the permit for the Headquarters Landfill. Environmental Health Manager Chris Bischoff says that the meeting is intended as an opportunity for you to comment on the permitting process, as the county continues its efforts to try and purchase the facility near Silver Lake from Weyerhaeuser. Bischoff says that comments will be accepted at tonight’s meeting, which will run from 6 to 8 pm in the County Commissioners Hearing Room, located on the third floor of the County Administration Building in Kelso. He also says that comments will be accepted in writing or on-line through September 10th. The most current copy of the landfill permit application is available at Cowlitz County Building and Planning, or by going onto the Cowlitz County website. The permit application is also listed as an agenda item at the next County Commission meeting, which is set for next Tuesday morning at 9 am.
