Cowlitz County officials are now going over submissions from eight different companies that have submitted Requests for Proposals regarding possible operations at the Headquarters Landfill. The county is gathering information regarding ownership and operations at the landfill, as regulatory burdens from the state continue to increase. The proposals from Republic Services, Waste Management, DTG Enterprises, Waste Connections, Waste Control, Green Life Waste, Recology and Santek Waste Services are now being forwarded to Steve DiJulio, a Seattle-based attorney who is reported to have special expertise in municipal utilities. The County Commissioners say that DiJulio will examine the RFP’s; his report will go to the Solid Waste Advisory Committee, while another company assess the value of the landfill. After this assessment and review is complete, it’s possible that the county could start discussions to create a “partnership” operations of the facility. The exact timeline for this process hasn’t been disclosed.
