After reviewing 19 applications that had been submitted, the Lower Columbia College Board of Trustees has identified four candidates that will be brought in to be interviewed for the position as President of the college. Three are from what could be considered as the local area; Christopher Bailey is currently the Vice President of Human Resources and Legal Affairs at Centralia College, Christine Chairsell is the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs in the Portland Community College system, and Stephen Schoonmaker is Vice President for Instruction at Clatsop Community College. The fourth finalist, Carmen Simone, is currently the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Casper College in Casper, Wyoming. It’s planned that the finalists will be brought in for interviews and open forums in May, with dates and times to be settled as travel arrangements and schedules are confirmed. College officials previously said that they’re shooting for the week of May 16th for these interviews and forums. The college is looking for a successor to Dr. Jim McLaughlin, who’s retiring in September, after 14 years at LCC.
