Lower Columbia College has its first Leader of Promise Scholar in some five years, chosen out of several hundred students who’d applied for the honor. The Daily News reports that 22 year-old Samantha Rintoul was one of 30 students honored as a Leader of Promise Scholar, out of 383 applicants; it’s also noted that she was one of only two students from the Northwest to be honor. Rintoul was recognized for her outstanding academic work, along with her involvement in Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society for two-year colleges. She’ll receive a $1,000 scholarship. LCC’s last Leader of Promise Scholar was John Lynch, back in 2005.
