The Weather Service has a Winter Weather Advisory up until 4 pm today for the area, saying that we could get a dusting of snow even down to the valley floor. Snow levels are dropping down to the valley floors this morning, with snow already reported in the Scappoose area. Gusty winds and heavy snow is also being reported in the hills to the west of Rainier. Forecasters say that showers will continue to move through the area all day today, tapering off by this afternoon. They say “local and brief” accumulations of an inch or so are possible below 500 feet today. One to two inches are expected around the 800-foot level, and two to four inches are expected above 1,000 feet. The higher you go, the deeper the snow. Above 1,500 feet, three to six inches is expected today. If you’re heading into the higher hills today, be ready for the possibility of snow-covered roads. Things are expected to start clearing up tomorrow, but temperatures are also expected to drop down below freezing.
